WC v/s WC

Image
In the days of the British Raj  when you couldn't count on a public toilet facility, an English woman was planning a trip to the Indian Sub-Continent. She was registered to stay in a small guest house owned by the local Schoolmaster.   In England, a bathroom is commonly called a WC which stands for 'Water Closet'.  She wrote to the schoolmaster inquiring of the facilities about the WC.  She was concerned as to whether the guest house contained a WC. The school master, not fluent in English, asked the local priest if he knew the meaning of WC.. Together they pondered possible meanings of the letters and concluded that the lady wanted to know if there was a 'Wayside Church' near the house. A bathroom never entered their minds. So the schoolmaster wrote the following reply: Dear Madam, I take great pleasure in informing you that the WC is located 9 miles from the house. It is located in the middle of a grove of pine trees, surrounded by lovely grounds. It is capabl...

Image
Bangalore : India has a great potential for start-up businesses, be it software, internet, e-commerce, manufacturing, R&D and others, and the world is betting high on this opportunity to gain more business. Then why is it that Indian start-ups are not gaining much momentum? The three-letter word "EGO" is responsible for this. With a general characteristic of ego in every Indian, it is carried forward by those who become an entrepreneur into their start-up. With a fragile ego, none is used to hear a "No" for their ideas and thoughts. This DNA separates startups in India from that in the Silicon Valley. Most start-ups come up with ideas for products/services just by following a hype or buzz without knowing the niche market/problem they want to address. A tightly knit community, Indian start-ups when discuss their ideas among themselves, they all want to be the good guy by not hurting the ego of others and in return trying to save theirs. Share your Spoon

Image
A holy man was having a conversation with God one day and said, ' God , I would like to know what Heaven and Hell are like.' God led the holy man to two doors. He opened one of the doors and the holy man looked in.  In the middle of the room was a large round table. In the middle of the table was a large pot of stew, which smelled delicious and made the holy man's mouth water. The people sitting around the table were thin and sickly. They appeared to be famished. They were holding spoons with very long handles, that were strapped to their arms and each found it possible to reach into the pot of stew and take a spoonful. But because the handle was longer than their arms, they could not get the spoons back into their mouths. The holy man shuddered at the sight of their misery and suffering. God said, 'You have seen Hell.'  They went to the next room and opened the door. It was exactly the same as the first one. There was the large round table with the large pot of ste...

Fasting - The Master Remedy

Image
Fasting refers to complete abstinence from food for a short or long period for a specific purpose. The word is derived from the old English, ‘feastan’ which means to fast, observe, be strict. Fasting is nature’s oldest, most effective and yet least expensive method of treating disease. It is followed in almost every religion. The saints of medieval times laid great stress on this method. The common cause of all diseases is the accumulation of waste and poisonous matter in the body which results from overeating. The majority of persons eat too much and follow sedentary occupations which do not permit sufficient and proper exercise for utilization of this large quantity of food. This surplus overburdens the digestive and assimilative organs and clogs up the system with impurities or poisons. Digestion and elimination become slow and the functional activity of the whole system gets deranged. The onset of disease is merely the process of ridding the system of these impurities. Every diseas...
