Medical Myths You Must Know

There are numerous myths related to medical science, which doesn’t have any relevance behind it. These myths don’t have any evidence to prove them right or wrong. Even then they are quite popular among the people. Here are some of the common myths which every one of us should be aware of-

Drink at least 8 glasses of water everyday
There is no scientific evidence  that  to keep yourself healthy, you should drink at least 8 glasses of water every day .This notion has been accepted worldwide and you can spot people carrying around bottles of water with them. The amount of water one needs to consume everyday depends on factors like how much water was there in the food we took, whether it is hot outside and our physical condition. Drinks such as tea, coffee, soft drinks, juices, etc may be counted towards the total of 8 glasses of water per day.

Cancer treatment
Many people firmly believe that there isn’t any purpose in cancer treatment. It is simply pointless and a waste of money .This would have been true some years ago. But now with the advancement in medical sciences and the invention of many drugs, cancer is no longer an incurable disease. Real progress is being made in cancer research .If you receive proper treatment in the first stage itself, it will be effective.

Cracking Knuckles
It is common myth that cracking knuckles will result in arthritis. But actually the sound you hear is that of a bubble bursting, which is formed when the bones move apart. If you continuously crack your knuckles over a long period of time, you finger joints may weaken. But it hasn’t got anything to do with arthritis. Arthritis is caused when the immune system attacks the joints. So you can continue cracking knuckles without any fear.

Hyper activity among kids
Most of the parents feel that their kids become hyperactive if they are given sugar. Even though many studies have been conducted on the relationship between sugar and hyperactivity among children, none of them could provide a clear scientific research. Hyperactivity in children might be due to the consumption of artificial food colours. But is advisable to give children limited sugar items, as it can be the reason for some other disease.

Back pain
It is said that back pain can be cured by taking bed rest. Taking bed rest actually worsens your back pain instead of making it better. If you engage yourself in your daily activities, you recover faster and will have fewer problems. A maximum of 2 days bed rest is recommended for back pain from sprains or strains. You should stretch your back combined with small exercise to improve the condition instead of lying steady in your bed.

ESSAY FROM A CHILD

A teacher from Primary School asks her students to write a essay about what they would like God to do for them...At the end of the day while marking the essays, she read one that made her very emotional. Her husband, that had just walked in saw her crying and asked her: - What happened? She answered - Read this essay. It's written by one of my students. "Oh God, tonight I ask you something very special: Make me into a television. I want to take its place. Live like the TV in my house. Have my own special place. And have my family around ME. To be taken seriously when I talk... I want to be the centre of attention and be heard without interruptions or questions. I want to receive the same special care that the TV receives when it is not working. Have the company of my dad when he arrives home from work, even when he is tired. And I want my mom to want me when she is sad and upset, instead of ignoring me... And... I want my brothers to fight to be with me... I want to feel that...

Today's Society and Changing Roles of Women

In recent years, the roles of women in families and society have transformed significantly. Education and empowerment have brought immense progress, but this shift has also led to some challenges worth reflecting upon. Rising Divorces:  A Concern Despite many marriages being based on love and mutual understanding, divorces are on the rise. Why? Today's women are often encouraged to focus on careers, sometimes at the expense of learning life skills like managing households or cooking. While financial independence is crucial, the balance between career and family often gets overlooked, leading to conflicts in relationships.

Farmer's Daughter - Lateral Thinking

Many years ago in a small Indian village, a farmer had the misfortune of owing a large sum of money to a village moneylender. The moneylender, who was old and ugly, fancied the farmer's beautiful daughter. So he proposed a bargain. He said he would forgo the farmer's debt if he could marry his daughter. Both the farmer and his daughter were horrified by the proposal. So the cunning money-lender suggested that they let providence decide the matter. He told them that he would put a black pebble and a white pebble into an empty money bag. Then the girl would have to pick one pebble from the bag. If she picked the black pebble, she would become his wife and her father's debt would be forgiven. If she picked the white pebble she need not marry him and her father's debt would still be forgiven. But if she refused to pick a pebble, her father would be thrown into jail. They were standing on a pebble strewn path in the farmer's field. As they talked, the moneylender bent o...
